Joelle has had anything but a stable life following the death of both her parents, and a stint in foster care as a teenager. Starting college was her chance to re-start her life, and shed her old image. She did just that when she fell for Rob, the lead singer of the rock group, Zenith. But the fast and furious lifestyle, a string of disappointments for the band, and working three jobs to get by are quickly catching up with her–as is Rob’s excessive drinking and partying. Joelle is now questioning what she found so appealing in the beginning.

Now, a chance meeting with the older brother of her best friend in high school is turning her life and perspective in ways she couldn’t have imagined. Nick Lassiter is everything that Rob is not and he’s there for her when she needs him, asking nothing in return. As Joelle faces hard decisions about her life with Rob, can she navigate the complications when her friendship with Nick develops into something neither of them expected?

Zenith Falling is the first book in the Zenith Trilogy by Leanne Davis. The series is interconnected but can be read as a standalone, as I did. The story is a slow burn, and there is lots of chemistry between Joelle and Nick. Be warned that there is an emotional cheating aspect to their story. Joelle does mature considerably during this story and learns to take charge of her life, but it’s a hard fought road. Fans of opposites attract and friend-to-lovers romance should check out this rock star themed romance.

Zenith Falling Zenith Trilogy #1 edition by Leanne Davis Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This book had a decent storyline to it, but Joelle was despicable. She played the “poor me, I’m so confused in life” card far too often and was an indecisive, wishy-washy little girl for all but the last few chapters. Nick was okay, but he was no real prize either. He did stand up for Joelle against his family and her ex-friend (who was a vile, self centered, meaner than mean girl herself), but he was too quick to stalk off and not listen (much like he accused Joelle of doing), and was all but willing to throw his chances at Joelle away because he was mad. The only redeeming qualities of this book were the two supporting (in so many ways) characters Erica and Spike/Spencer. Erica was truly kind and caring and S/S obviously cared about his friendship with Joelle and just wanted her safe and happy. I will read the next book to see how their story goes.
At first, I wasn't sure about this book. I love the musician trope. However, the musicians of Zenith (however talented they apparently were) were lazy druggie alcoholics and that turned me off. It was hard not to feel for Joelle, who worked three jobs (while her husband did half work on his music), while still making it to his performances. It was hard not to see the push towards Nick, who was a little difficult for me to read in the beginning. Joelle was hiding through her clothes, hair, and makeup which made the world either scared or dismissive of her. She was stronger than she thought, and I loved her character. The story of Joelle and Nick evolved slowly and it was a little "loud" at times, but it was nice to read of a man who helped with no questions asked. He was mostly patient and was there to fall on, to rely on, and to love her for how she was.
Joelle Williams life is spinning out of control while she is married to rock star wannabe, the lead band of Zenith. The plot is already known from the beginning of drugs and alcohol. The marriage is doomed from the start. She's married to a wannabe rock star Rob, lead singer of the band Zenith. The plot thickens when an old friend swoops in to help save her. I love how she potrayed Joelle's life battered and beat down. She is desperate to escape the hell of a life she has wound around her and making it hard to escaape. She is bound to her husband thinking she needs him and can't live without him, like an emotional cinderblock around her neck. I won't tell how the book ends, but I know that the crusade is heart wrenching. I don't care for the drug and rock star scene, but again she gets a five on this book for describing the vicious cycle of degradation and desperation of a life with someone swowping in to save a friend. Good book however. It was long and it took me a while to read, but however I do like it.
Joelle Williams life is spinning out of control. She's married to a wannabe rock star Rob, lead singer of the band Zenith. But their marriage is suffering from the vagaries of his battle with drugs and alcohol abuse. Enter an old friend's brother, Nick Lassiter, swooping in to save her from the downward spiral. It began as a crusade to save an old friend from a vicious cycle of degradation and emotional abuse. She is so consumed by her life with Rob though, she doesn't believe she can have or deserves a better life than the one she's living. She's desperate to escape the hell her life has become but she's afraid and convinced this was the only life she could have. Emotionally stunted, beaten down and convinced she couldn't live without Rob. Somewhere along the way things got out of control and Nick wanted the end result to be Joelle choosing him. Rob is slowly but surely going to hit rock bottom and he's dragging Joelle down with him. She's losing her own grip on her sanity and her brain is on emotional overload. If Nick can't save her from the downfall, will he be able to let her go or die trying to save her from herself?

This book was truly well written. I've become a huge follower of this author. Everything she has written has always been something worth every second of my time. This particular book hit me close to home on an emotional plane. It was almost cathartic. I couldn't even put it down till I had read every bit of it. I quite literally spent 12 hours reading almost 400 pages which was crazy because I started reading it after dinner one night and stayed up till after dawn till I could finish it. I'm getting ready to delve into the next book in the series! Stay tuned for that review!
