Leaving Atlanta, Georgia was best for all of us. Mama wasn't "black" and Daddy wasn't "white"; and I guess that left me somewhere in the middle. The year was 1976 and I couldn't wait to hit the road with Mama. Getting out of that shallow-minded town was the cure that we all needed. Daddy was already in California nesting our new home.
As the old bitty, our mule of a vehicle, pulled out of the driveway for the last time, I breathed in the air of freedom. I never imagined the chain of events that would alter my life forever.
Abducted, probed and confined to a rotting shack on a large plantation, I learned what freedom, and the lack thereof, meant. Finding strength to hold my adolescent tongue, enduring the savage behavior of my abductors, and reading Clara's Bible, I was left with one choice only - to survive.

In the year 1976, could a young black girl be held as a slave? She could if the family of evil people was a cult dealing in opium and sex trade. Waking from a drugged stupor, Daisy found herself in a world far from the California college she had been going toward. A strange little old woman who knits all the time on the porch of a shack would point Daisy to a hidden book. That book could ultimately be directions for her escape, that is, if she could stay sane and hold on long enough. CLARA'S BIBLE by D.M. Denovi is anything but dull, as you live with her in a plight none of us even dare to imagine. The violence and language are minimal for such a story, however, but the excitement is full throttle. I cheered and encouraged Daisy all the way through to the last page. CLARA'S BIBLE is different from anything I've ever read, but I really enjoyed it and simply could hardly put it down.Product details

Clara Bible eBook DM Denovi Reviews
Interesting plot line this story goes in directions that will surprise you
What a wonderful way to show how to live in a broken world through biblical principles without being preachy. The characters were so engaging. Thank you for what you are doing.
One of those books you want to keep reading to the very end. Clara's Bible had a unique writing style that I enjoyed. Using the Ten commandments as a means for relating the past to the present was a special way of telling the story. Although I guessed early in the story who Miss Knitty was, her interaction with the other characters was a well kept secret. The truth of what must be done and endured to survive was clearly kept separate from the main character's true values and beliefs. The kind of book I would reread.
From the moment I started reading Clara's Bible, I could not put it down. The author, D.M. Denovi, is a tremendously gifted writer and the story stirred my soul throughout. I strongly recommend Clara's Bible for lovers of fiction and non-fiction alike due to the thrill of suspenseful plots along with the review of cultural times.
I read another book from this author and loved it too. She writes well and makes me want to read more of what she has to say, and I'm not even a big reader.
Read it straight through. Faith, love, strength and desire. All the elements needed to capture you and draw you into the life of the characters.
